The
Chastity Education Program of the Archdiocese of New
York is excited to announce the release of the Parent
Guides to Human Sexuality, a set of three concrete
resources for parents of children from ages 5 to 19 to
educate themselves in the Catholic Church’s teachings
regarding human sexuality. The Parent Guides to Human
Sexuality, were the fruit of collaboration between the
Family Life/Respect Life, Catechetical, and Education
Offices of the Archdiocese of New York.
The Parent Guides to Human Sexuality were developed
to help parents in three specific ways:
• To provide parents of children in grades
Kindergarten through High School with specific knowledge
of the Catholic Church’s teachings regarding human
sexuality and ways that they can educate their children
in the faith in a developmentally appropriate way with
the specific references to church teachings from the
Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, The Truth
and Meaning of Human Sexuality (Pontifical Council of
the Family), Catechetical Formation in Chaste Living
(United States Council of Catholic Bishops), and other
prominent church documents.
• To present parents with an overview of each
developmental stage in their child’s life so that they
can individually meet the needs of their son or daughter
at a time that is appropriate for each child
• To empower parents and encourage them to joyfully
embrace the active role in their children’s life,
especially when it comes to speaking about topics of
human sexuality, which many parents feel ill-equipped
for
By providing parents and teens with concise and accurate
information about their faith, we are promoting a
culture of informed, faithful Catholics who have the
knowledge to live out and defend their faith. What
better tool to provide to our parents in the upcoming
Year of Faith!
These guides were developed to not only be used to meet
the needs of the parents within the Archdiocese of New
York but to serve as a catechetical resource for all
parents throughout the country who seek to illuminate
the brilliance of the Church’s teachings on human
sexuality.
We are excited to bring these Parent Guides to Human
Sexuality to you and happily share the support we have
received for these guides from our own Timothy Michael
Cardinal Dolan in September 2012 when he stated, “This
guide clearly presents God’s plan for life, love,
dignity, and human sexuality, and opens the door to
honest communication with your child in a way that is
appropriate to your child’s age and development. I hope
it will be an invaluable resource, leading all who use
it to a deeper understanding of the freedom and joy that
come from living a pure life according to God’s plan.”

Oppose New
York City Public School Sex Education Mandate In
August 2011, the Department of Education of the City of
New York announced that all public school students would
be required to attend sex education classes, beginning
this school year. The Archdiocese strongly opposes
this decision, and has urged school officials to
offer abstinence education instead.

What is chastity? "The Church calls all to lead "a chaste life in
keeping with their particular states in life" (CCC,
no 2348), a striving that is performed
deliberately, maturely, happily, and for the
sake of the Kingdom. It is a surrendering
of all genital activity in thought, word, and
deed, alone, or with others, hetero-or-homo,
honestly confronting any inclinations, drives,
or fantasies that threaten the wholesome,
healthy, realistic purity mirrored by Jesus and
expected by His Church of her people."
Called To Be Holyby Archbishop Timothy Dolan,
Archdiocese of New York
What am I saying YES to when
I choose chastity?
We are bombarded with
messages all around us that tell us what we are saying
NO to when we choose to live a chaste life, what we are
missing out on. It's about time that we think
about all the things we are saying YES to, what we are
gaining.
Click here to discover what you are saying YES to by
living a chaste life along with some practical advice on
how to live a chaste life NOW!
