New York City Public School Sex Education Mandate
In August 2011, the Department of Education of the City of New York announced that all public school students would be required to attend sex education classes, beginning this school year. The Archdiocese strongly opposes this decision, and has urged school officials to offer abstinence education instead.

For more information about the City's decision, and the curriculum they plan to use, visit http://nycparentschoice.org/.

The Archdiocese has issued a statement about this decision: http://www.archny.org/news-events/news-press-releases/index.cfm?i=21191.

The Director of the Catechetical Office of the Archdiocese has sent a letter home to all parents of students in religious education:  http://www.nyfaithformation.org/media/files/Director%5FLetter%5Foptout%5FSE.pdf.

Chastity Programs
There are a number of Chastity Programs that are available for Schools, Catechetical Departments, and Youth Groups to utilize.  We've listed a few of the programs below.  (We'll be updating this webpage to include more information so be sure to check back soon!)

Theology of the Body for Teens
The Theology of the Body is an understanding of the human person and God’s plan for humanity that is founded upon http://www.flrl.org/images/Theolo3.jpgScripture and the teachings of the Church. It takes us beyond the "thou shall nots" we often associate with Christianity to a fresh, new approach to the gift of human sexuality. It is an excellent resource for small group discussion (e.g. youth group) and is available as a workbook, along with a leader's guide.
