A common misperception is that the Catholic
Church opposes Stem Cell Research. The
Catholic Church, in fact, emphatically supports
Stem Cell research and funds such research
through many of it's Catholic Universities.
The Catholic Church, does
however, oppose Embryonic Stem Cell research
because that involves the destruction of a human
being at the embryonic phase.
To learn more about this, please see the
Embryonic Stem Cells section on the
Respect Life webpage.
New
York State to pay egg donors with tax dollars
On May 12th, 2009, New
York State's ethics committee, Empire State Stem
Cell Board, voted to recommend that tax dollars
be awarded to women who's eggs were harvested to
be used for Embryonic Stem Cell research.
If passed, New York would become the first state
in the union to allow such reimbursements for
eggs-for-research donors. Read more of Fr.
Thomas Berg's article, "Scrambled Ethics",
